The artist published on the X platform an image with “Trump Gold Card”, an immigration scheme described as a fast-track and exclusive path to citizenship. According to information available on the program's official website, the card requires, after verification, a donation of one million dollars, intended to demonstrate that the applicant will bring substantial benefits to the United States. In addition, applicants must pay a nonrefundable processing fee of $15,000 to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as well as any additional fees to the Department of State, depending on the situation.
Minaj initially posted the image of the card with the message “Welp”, sparking speculation about her residency status. Later, the artist clarified the situation, stating that she is in the process of obtaining American citizenship. “We are finalizing the citizenship papers right now as per the wishes of my wonderful, kind and charming president,” wrote the artist, adding that she received “free trump gold card”.
Before obtaining this status, Nicki Minaj was a lawful permanent resident of the United States. The artist moved from Trinidad and Tobago to the US as a child and only revealed in 2024 that despite her international success and high income, she did not hold US citizenship.
The announcement came just hours after Minaj appeared alongside Donald Trump at a summit to promote the “Trump Accounts” initiative, a program designed to create tax-advantaged investment accounts for US citizens under 18.
According to The New York Post, the contributions associated with the initiative could involve investments between 150,000 and 300,000 dollars for the supporters of the artist, in order to create accounts dedicated to their children, under the name “Barbz”.
At the event, Nicki Minaj publicly expressed her support for President Trump. “I'm probably the president's biggest fan and that's not going to change. We're not going to let him get away with intimidation and smear campaigns. He's got a lot of power behind him and God is protecting him,” said the artist.
