Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (41) has revealed what will be the next objective of the Ferrari team before the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season.

The Briton spent half a day behind the wheel of the SF-26 single-seater during the second day of testing in Barcelona, completing 56 laps of the wet Catalunya circuit. Ferrari did not take part in the third day of testing on Wednesday but is expected to be on track today and tomorrow when no new rains are forecast in Barcelona.

Thus, Hamilton will have the first opportunity to test the SF-26 on dry asphalt. It's an important moment, because the Briton will feel for the first time how the new active aerodynamics of the front and rear wings work, in conditions where on a wet surface, the rear wing is not active.

Hamilton added that Ferrari must also understand how to use the hybrid component of the powertrain. Starting this year, the power distribution between the conventional internal combustion engine and the electric motor will be 50/50, so the management of the hybrid system becomes even more important.

“I'm hoping to test the car on dry land and get a feel for its balance, understand the straight-line drive that we have and how to use it, how it feels. I haven't driven it on dry land yet, so I don't have a clear idea of the feel it gives.

I only drove in the wet, when only the front wing is active. In addition, we also need to understand how to use electricity. That's going to be crucial – figuring out how to use the energy and how to charge the battery over the course of a tour, all those things.

I worked a lot. Everyone works very hard in the simulator. So it's not something completely new for us, but we still have to go through the sessions and analyze the data to optimize things,” Hamilton said, quoted by sportal.bg.

He hopes to have a good season after a nightmare first year at Ferrari. 2025 was the first year in Hamilton's career that the multiple world champion never stepped on the podium!
