Health experts have compiled a selection of effective and safe methods for relieving cold symptoms at home.
1. Warm drink
Drinking plenty of warm fluids helps thin mucus, moisturizes the throat and prevents dehydration, which often accompanies a cold.
- Herbal teas: ginger (relieves inflammation, soothes the throat), mint (relieves nasal congestion), chamomile (relaxes and improves sleep).
- Honey and lemon: A teaspoon of honey and the juice of half a lemon in warm water soothes a sore throat and saturates the body with vitamin C.
- Chicken broth: Warm broth reduces swelling of the mucous membranes and gives strength.
2. Natural antiseptics and immunostimulants
- Garlic contains allicin, a compound with antiviral and antibacterial properties. Add to warm dishes or take in capsules.
- Ginger has an anti-inflammatory effect and reduces nausea. The fresh root can be added to tea or simply chewed in small slices.
- Honey, especially manuka or buckwheat, has pronounced antimicrobial properties and gently coats the throat.
3. Ease breathing and relieve congestion
- Steam inhalation. Add 2-3 drops of eucalyptus or tea tree essential oil to a bowl of hot water, cover with a towel and breathe in the steam for 5-10 minutes.

- Rinse with a solution of salt or soda from 1 tsp. A glass of warm water reduces soreness and swelling.
- A warm compress on the bridge of the nose and forehead helps relieve sinus pressure.
- Essential oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender diluted in a carrier oil can be applied to the temples and chest to ease breathing.
5. Mode and nutrition
- Good rest and sleep are the best medicine. The body needs strength to fight the virus.
- Give preference to light, nutritious foods such as broths, stewed vegetables, fruits, especially citrus fruits, kiwis, and berries rich in vitamins.
- Temporarily avoid dairy products, which can increase mucus production.
6. What to avoid
- Bad habits irritate the mucous membranes and weaken the immune system.
- Strong physical activity without full recovery.
- Hypothermia and stress.
