The world's largest delivery company, UPS, has unveiled plans for massive job cuts. In 2026, the logistics giant will lay off up to 30,000 employees and close additional facilities, CBS News reports. The company also intends to further limit the handling of packages from Amazon to reduce costs.

United Parcel Service's chief financial officer, Brian Dykes, confirmed that at Tuesday's earnings call the company will reduce employment by approximately 30,000 positions and close 24 branches.

Termination of jobs instead of layoffs

According to information from CBS News and MSN, the process will not take the form of layoffs, but rather the failure to fill vacancies that will appear, for example, as a result of employees retiring or their personal decisions to leave. UPS is also planning a voluntary departure program for full-time drivers, similar to the one introduced in 2025.

UPS limits cooperation with Amazon

The plans to cut jobs are driven by UPS's cooperation with Amazon, which is coming to an end. In April 2025, UPS announced that it would reduce the volume of parcels delivered to Amazon, announcing the layoffs of approximately 20,000 people. employees. In 2026, the company intends to continue its efforts by cutting low-income deliveries by one million packages a day and reorganizing the network, UPS CEO Caroline Tome said, quoted by Reuters. CFO UPS also admitted that further branches may be closed in the second half of 2026, and the company will focus on automation when sorting and delivering parcels.

Will layoffs at UPS apply to Poland?

UPS employs approximately 490,000 people worldwide. The job reduction plans concern the company's global operations, but it is not certain what will be the fate of employees employed in Polish UPS branches. It can be expected that the company will not offer new contracts to part-time employees, which will naturally lead to the termination of jobs.
