In Irkutsk, a man accused of beating his own wife killed a random woman, having previously held her hostage. As reported by IrkutskMedia news agency, the attacker voluntarily surrendered after committing the crime.

It is known that before the tragedy the man abused his wife for several months. Together with her 7-year-old son, she was hiding from him in the crisis center of the Obereg charity foundation, which helps women in difficult situations.

On the evening of January 27, he kidnapped a random woman at knifepoint and locked himself in the apartment with her. The head of the Obereg foundation, Alexander Sobolev, said that she was also a ward of the foundation, the mother of two girls. More than 50 police and intelligence officers responded to the scene. After five hours of negotiations, the man left the apartment and surrendered. However, the woman was found dead. According to preliminary data, he strangled the victim.

The head of the Obereg foundation, Alexander Sobolev, reported on social networks that the children of the deceased have been temporarily transferred to their grandmother, and psychologists are working with them. Sobolev also said that the suspect is a member of the SVO and called for a thorough investigation.

“I personally and the team of the Obereg Foundation respect and honor the defenders of our homeland. We are sincerely grateful to them for their courage, work, and self-sacrifice. But personally, I am confidently ready to declare a serious problem brewing in our society. <...> He [подозреваемый] he didn’t care about calls from the police, he ran away from a military unit in Rostov, he beat him every day and was sure that nothing would happen to him except that he would be sent back,” wrote Alexander Sobolev.
