Scandal in the Czech Republic. The president accuses the minister of blackmail. He showed the news

Why are we writing about this?

The Czech president accuses Foreign Minister Petr Macinek of trying to put pressure on the appointment of a politician from his party as environment minister. According to Petr Pavel, this has been going on “for a long time” and is to be manifested both in direct communication and through his colleagues or advisors.

On Tuesday, Pavel revealed on social media the content of two messages that Macinka sent overnight through presidential adviser Petro Kolar. “I consider the information contained therein to be extremely serious,” writes the Czech president on the X website.

What was in the news?

The foreign minister wrote that he “faces an irreversible decision on how to proceed with Mr. President.” According to him, Pavel will have peace of mind if a politician from the Zmotoryzowani party, led by Macinka, Filip Turek, is appointed Minister of the Environment by the president. “However, if this does not happen, I will burn bridges in a way that will end up in political science textbooks as an extreme case of cohabitation,” wrote the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“The minister noted in the news that his actions are supported by the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and SPD representative Tomi Okamura,” we read in Pavel's post.

How did the Czech president react?

In his opinion, however, the minister does not have the support of Prime Minister Andrej Babis. The Czech president accuses the Motorized Party of actions aimed solely at “pursuing its own ambitions to make a controversial figure a minister.”

What steps will Pavel take?

Pavel emphasizes that blackmail attempts do not work on him. “I am submitting a request to the security authorities and I intend to forward the messages to lawyers in order to assess whether this constitutes a crime of blackmail,” he concludes.
