In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a pensioner’s vision deteriorated after surgery due to an incorrect diagnosis

In the Birilyussky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, the court recovered compensation in favor of a pensioner for poor quality treatment.

A resident of the Birilyussky district contacted the supervisory authority when, after surgical treatment of glaucoma, he noticed a serious deterioration in his vision. As a result, after the operation the man suffered a complication of the disease.

After an inspection, it turned out that medical care for the pensioner at the Birilyussky regional hospital was provided with violations. The diagnosis was made incorrectly, the necessary treatment measures were carried out late. This affected the patient’s condition, aggravated the disease and extended the treatment period.

“The examination confirmed that mistakes were made at the regional level as well. At the Regional Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital named after Professor P. G. Makarov, the doctors did not conduct all the necessary research, did not take timely measures to preserve vision – did not prescribe long-term therapy, did not provide proper monitoring,” the regional prosecutor’s office clarified.

In the interests of the victim, the prosecutor's office went to court. As a result, the court ordered compensation for moral damage from both medical organizations – 225 thousand rubles from each in favor of the pensioner.

The execution of the court decision is controlled by the prosecutor's office.
