A teacher from Krasnoyarsk criticized the idea of expelling schoolchildren for behavior

An initiative is being discussed in Russia that could give schools the right to expel students for disruptive behavior. According to TASS, this proposal was made by the head of the Human Rights Council Valery Fadeev.

He said that the expulsion mechanism should be used in extreme cases – for example, attacks on teachers or systematic disruption of lessons.

An expert from Krasnoyarsk criticized this proposal. Natalya Yakovleva, associate professor of the Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University, told sibnovosti.ru that such a serious measure requires extremely clear criteria.

“In the absence of such criteria, we risk depriving children of the right to general education. This can lead to a surge in deviant and criminal behavior,” the teacher explained.

In her opinion, expulsion can only be justified in exceptional cases, for example, if a student has committed a crime. Yakovleva warned that vague language in the law could lead to arbitrariness in educational institutions.

Currently, Russian schools are already testing a system of assessments for behavior, which was initiated on behalf of President Vladimir Putin.
