Some Republicans in private conversations told members of the Trump administration that they fear that in the event of an armed attack on Greenland, the US president may even face impeachment.

In this context, Reuters notes that in recent days Trump has softened his approach towards Greenland – he withdrew the threat to impose tariffs on allies and said that he had reached an agreement with NATO on the future of the island. This was also confirmed by Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte. Details of the arrangements are not publicly known.
