On Monday, the European Commission accepted the Polish national plan for spending money on defense from the SAFE program. Poland applied for funding for 139 projects worth EUR 43.7 billion. The EC also gave the green light to seven other EU countries to implement SAFE.

Apart from Poland, the EC also accepted plans submitted by Estonia, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Finland on Monday.
The SAFE program provides a total of EUR 150 billion in support in the form of low-interest loans for the purchase of military equipment, largely produced in Europe. Poland is to be its biggest beneficiary.
The European Commission approved the plans of the first eight member states participating in the SAFE program on January 16. A total of 19 Member States have signed up to participate in the program.
After the plans are approved by the European Commission, the final decision on their adoption will be made by the member states in the EU Council, for which they have four weeks. (PAP)
