The President of AUR, George Simion, stated on Saturday that the authorities “do not want to hear the voice of the Romanians”, commenting on the reaction of President Nicușor Dan after he was booed in Focșani and Iași on the Day of the Union of the Romanian Principalities.

The statements were made during an event organized in The Hague, in front of Romanians from the diaspora.

“You saw even today when they were booed, in Focșani and Iași, how they reacted. They don't want to hear the voice of the Romanians, they are capable of canceling elections, rigging elections, killing, if necessary, in order to stay in office. They have the judiciary, they have the prosecutor's offices, they have the Constitutional Court, they have the Government, they have the Parliament, they have all the power. We have you, the Romanians from the country and abroad. Together with you we will we manage to get things moving. And until we get AUR in power and have a Romanian government and a president of the Romanians, we launch this project (…), said George Simion.

How Nicușor Dan responded to the boos

President Nicușor Dan's speeches at the ceremonies in Focșani and Iași on the Day of the Union of the Romanian Principalities were booed by some of those present. Faced with this reaction, the president addressed the crowd directly, in both cases.

“Happy birthday dear people of Focșan who boo the public authorities. It's a right you won, it's a right for which some people died so that any citizen of this country has the right to boo a public authority. But this right also comes with a responsibility. The responsibility is to look at who are the people you put your hopes in. Don't only think about step 1, think about step 2 too. You have a responsibility for yourself, for your children, you have a responsibility for the whole of Romania”, said Nicușor Dan la Focșani.

Nicușor Dan was booed by some of those present in Iași as well.

“You have my respect because it is a democratic gesture that you are doing. You have my sympathy because I have also booed politicians several times, but I ask you two questions. Immediately after that what happens? Is there a project? Beyond challenging a way in which society works, do you have any leaders with a project? If you have, let's debate”, Nicușor Dan addressed those who booed.

More than 2,000 Romanians participated on Saturday in the Union March in Iași, organized by AUR, according to the balance provided by the party. The protesters shouted, among other things, “National unity” and “Long live and flourish Moldova, Transylvania and Wallachia”.
