Bulgaria is headed by a woman for the first time. The court accepted Radev's resignation

The court unanimously confirmed that the resignation was Radev's personal will and was not carried out under pressure.

The powers of the president are transferred to the vice-president of the country, Iliana Yotova, who automatically assumes the post of head of state. She does not need to re-swear the oath as she has already done so in 2021.

The media noted that Yotova becomes the first female president of Bulgaria and at the same time the supreme commander of the armed forces. Previously, she worked as a journalist, then in the structures of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, and was a deputy and European deputy. She has served as vice president for the past nine years.

Radev was elected president in 2016 and was re-elected in 2021. He became the first president to resign in the country's democratic history.
