The Italian and European runners-up have made a great start to the new year, recording four wins and a draw in their five league games so far, helping Chivu's side stay top of Serie A.
At the moment, Inter have 49 points and are three lengths clear of arch-rivals Milan, who are in second place, and six points behind reigning champions Napoli, the team that completes the podium.
Even so, the duel with Pisa comes after a cold shower suffered by the “nerazzurra” group. Giuseppe Meazza's side lost 3-1 at home to Arsenal in the Champions League in midweek and dropped to 14th in their group, a position that does not guarantee a direct participation in the last 16 of the competition.
So, in order to still hope for the TOP 8, Inter is obliged to win in the last stage, at Signal Iduna Park, where they will face Borussia Dortmund.
Pisa has only one seasonal success in Serie A
On the other hand, things are much more complicated. With just one win in their opening 21 matches, Alberto Gilardino's side are 19th in Italy, penultimate in the table.
In the last two legs, Pisa recorded two draw results (2-2 at Udine and 1-1 “at home” with Atalanta), thus reaching 11 draws in the championship, more than any other team in Serie A this season.
However, with a win today, the formation for which Marius Marin plays could equal Fiorentina on points, the first team above the red line.
Lautaro Martinez, the decisive man for Inter in the tour match
The first direct duel between the two teams this season took place about two months ago, on November 30, 2025, and then Cristi Chivu's team won.
