Owners of homes with stove heating know: cleaning the chimney is not just a concern for draft, but a matter of safety. Carbon deposits and soot accumulate over time, reducing heating efficiency and increasing the risk of fire.
Many people use folk remedies – potato peelings, salt, or call a chimney sweep. But, according to the author of the blog “Tales from a Construction Site,” the most reliable method is mechanical cleaning, which is easy to do yourself.
What you will need:
- 2 plastic bottles (1 l);
- a piece of thick hose (for example, from a heated floor);
- nails or screws.
How to assemble a brush:
- Cut the bottoms off the bottles.
- Cut the body into petals.
- Place the “flowers” on the hose and secure them with nails or screws.
The resulting device can be used to clean a chimney from the roof or from inside the house – the plastic petals catch soot without damaging the walls of the pipe.
