Trump has repeatedly repeated that the United States must gain control of Greenland, otherwise it will allegedly be captured by China and the Russian Federation. He also said that the US could use military force to take over Greenland.
Against the backdrop of statements by the American president, a number of countries, including Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Finland, sent military personnel to Greenland for reconnaissance purposes in preparation for military exercises.
On January 21 at Davos, Trump said: that he does not intend to use force to seize Greenland, although, according to him, no one would be able to stop the American army if this happened.
On the same day, the US President announced that he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had formed the basis for a future agreement on Greenland and he will not impose tariffs on NATO countries.
The media wrote that Denmark could provide the United States with “sovereignty over small areas” of Greenland for the construction of American military bases.
