The average unit price for a wagon was PLN 439.6 thousand. euro. The transaction was settled in euro and financed from PKP Intercity's own funds.

PKP Intercity plans to start operating the first wagons at the end of the first quarter of 2026. All purchased wagons are designed to travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h and can be used in international traffic. They are equipped with, among others: with air conditioning, automatically opening doors and a closed toilet system.

The purchased rolling stock included 12 first-class carriages – including two without compartments and ten compartment carriages – and 38 second-class carriages. This group includes 24 compartmentless wagons, six compartment-less wagons and eight compartmentless wagons adapted to transport bicycles.

As indicated by the deputy minister, representatives of PKP Intercity and PKP Intercity Remtrak carried out inspections of wagons in Berlin and Leipzig at the turn of September and October 2025. Seven experienced experts and engineers participated in the inspection. The wagons themselves were modernized in 1998–2004.

According to Malepszak, after being imported to Poland, the rolling stock will be subjected to necessary repairs, which will enable its quick implementation into operation. The scope of work will be determined based on the maintenance system documentation provided by the previous owner and detailed technical verification. The repairs will be carried out by PKP Intercity Remtrak.

The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure emphasized that wagons do not require the so-called polonization. They comply with the provisions of the RIC international agreement and can be operated on the Polish railway network.

PKP Intercity announced the purchase of 50 wagons from Deutsche Bahn at the beginning of December last year.

PKP Intercity is the largest interregional railway operator that provides communication between large cities and popular tourist centers in the country, as well as enabling travel around Europe. Last year, PKP Intercity trains carried 78.5 million passengers. The company offers travel in four categories of trains. Your Railway Lines (TLK) and InterCity (IC) are economic connections, while Express InterCity (EIC) and Express InterCity Premium (EIP) operated by Pendolino vehicles are express connections.(PAP)
