If Ukraine survives this winter, the advantage will be on its side, not Russia

According to Kellogg, against the backdrop of “great losses” in the Russian Federation, illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin is looking for a way to “come out of this situation with dignity,” because “he understands: he will not win this war.”

“I understand that this is a difficult winter. I understand what is happening in Kyiv, I know about the temperatures. But I sincerely believe that if Ukraine survives this winter – January, February – and we enter March and April, the advantage will be on your side, on the side of Ukraine, not Russia,” Kellogg said.

According to him, Putin “psychologically has already reached the point where he simply cannot let go of the situation.”

“Because if he lets go, he will admit that it was a failure, that everything he did was a failure,” Kellogg concluded.

Context

Since the beginning of the heating season, the Russian Federation has attacked Ukraine’s energy sector 256 times, the SBU reported on January 15. In particular, since the beginning of October 2025, the occupiers have deliberately fired at 11 Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants and 45 largest thermal power plants. The Russians also carried out 49 targeted air strikes on thermal power plants and 151 on electrical substations in different regions of Ukraine.

Due to the consequences of Russian shelling and winter cold, emergency power outages began to be used in Ukraine. A state of emergency has been introduced in the Ukrainian energy sector.

The situation is especially difficult in Kyiv, where the energy system is in deep emergency mode.
