— Hydrogen GZM project: as part of the contract with PAK-PCE Polski Autobus Wodorowy, eight hydrogen buses were received. Three buses will soon be registered and put into operation by PKM in Katowice and five by PKM Tychy, he said.
Hydrogen buses in Silesia. The effect of the tender and high funding
The purchase of buses is the result of the tender announced by the Metropolis, which included five vehicles for Tychy and three for Katowice. The investment was co-financed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in the amount of as much as 95%. The contract was signed in December 2024, and deliveries were originally planned until the end of November 2025.
The buses will be used on specific lines: in Katowice there will be, among others: on routes 46, 115 and 70, and in Tychy on lines 2, 21, 75, 137, 273 and 696.

Modern technology
The purchased vehicles are low-floor city buses, approximately 12 m long, equipped with hydrogen drive and electric energy storage.. They have an engine with a power of at least 150 kW and a fuel cell with a power of at least 70 kW. The tanks hold over 35 kg of hydrogen, which allows for long operation without the need to refuel.
The metropolis also required long warranties – for the hydrogen installation, at least 84 months with no mileage limits and a minimum of PLN 400,000. km per drive system.
Costs and future plans
The entire order amounted to PLN 31.8 million with a budget of PLN 36.2 million. The only offer was submitted by PAK-PCE Polski Autobus Wodorowy. Buses will be refueled at the Orlen station at ul. Murckowska in Katowice.
The Hydrogen GZM project is another step towards ecological transport in the region. Earlier, Rybnik had already implemented a similar solution and ordered 20 hydrogen buses. GZM hopes that the new vehicles will not only reduce exhaust emissions, but also become an impulse for the further development of green transport in Silesia.
