“Sinners,” a daring and bloody vampire saga set in the southern United States, earned a record 16 nominations for the 2026 Academy Awards on March 15 on Thursday, followed by Leonardo DiCaprio starrer “One Battle After Another” with 13 nominations.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the full list of nominations for the film industry's most prestigious gala, and unlike other years, it doesn't seem to hold many surprises in the major categories.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothee Chalament have been nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for their performances in 'One Battle After Another' and 'Marty Supreme' respectively, while acclaimed director Thomas Paul Anderson will be hoping to take home the Oscar he is considered a heavy favorite for this year. He has now reached his 12th nomination.

He will be contested by Chloé Zhao, a previous Best Director winner for her work on “Nomadland.” This year she was nominated for “Hamnet,” a film that tells the story of William Shakespeare's wife as she deals with the loss of her only film.

Another statuette that will be hotly contested at the Oscars on March 15 will be that for best supporting actor. This year the list of nominees includes two actors from “One Battle After Another”: Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn. Both actors have also won acting awards, with del Toro earning a nod for “Traffic” and Penn earning statuettes for “Milk” and “Mystic River.” They will compete with Delroy Lindo (“Sinners”), Stellan Skarsgård (“Sentimental Value”) and Jacob Elordi (“Frankenstein”).
