The date of the EP vote on ratification of the EU agreement with Mercosur countries is not yet known. Farmers who are against the treaty do not want to wait for the final vote and have decided to protest during the first plenary session of 2026 in Strasbourg.
The agreement with South American countries provides for trade liberalization, among others. agricultural products. Protesters fear this will threaten their incomes and production standards and that it will lead to an influx of cheaper goods that do not meet EU standards.
On the streets, with a population of less than 300,000 inhabitants of the French city, approximately one thousand tractors are to be built near the European Parliament. The EP authorities estimate that approximately 5,000 people will take part in the demonstration, mainly from France, but also from Poland, Belgium and Romania.
The largest French farmers' union, La FNSEA (National Federation of Agricultural Unions), which is the main organizer of the protest, announced on the X platform that the demonstration aims to “challenge MEPs.”
The European farmers' organization COPA-COGECA announced that farmers from 15 member states have decided to join the La FNSEA protest.

The farmers plan to remain outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg until Wednesday, when MEPs will decide whether to refer the case to the CJEU.
