Trump also expressed his belief that Ukrainian society wants the fighting to end.

He added that he spoke with the leaders of France, Germany and Great Britain, and “quite strong words” were spoken during the conversation.

Kremlin: Trump's recent statements about Ukraine are consistent with Moscow's position

US President Donald Trump's statements about Ukraine in a recent interview for the Politico website are consistent with Moscow's position, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday. He said the interview was “very important” and Moscow welcomed it.

– In many respects, such as NATO membership, territories, Ukraine's loss of position, (Trump's opinions – PAP) are consistent with our understanding (of these issues – PAP). At many points, President Trump addressed the root causes of the conflict, Peskov told reporters.

In the interview, Trump said that Russia would ultimately win the war because it is larger than Ukraine and has a better negotiating position in talks to end the fighting.

– I give great respect to the people of Ukraine and the Ukrainian army for (…) courage, fight and so on. But (…) at some point size will win, generally speaking – he said.

He also again expressed his opposition to Ukraine's accession to NATO, claiming that there had been an understanding for a long time – even before Vladimir Putin came to power – that Ukraine would not join the Alliance.

The American leader also said that Ukraine, which has lost a significant amount of territory since the beginning of the war in 2022, should hold elections, and accused the authorities in Kiev of using the war as an excuse to abandon this step.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Tuesday that he is ready to call presidential elections in his country provided that allies guarantee the security of voting in conditions of war.
