The incident occurred on December 29, near Lagos, when the SUV carrying the British boxer rammed into a truck parked on the side of the road. Joshua suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, but his life was not in danger.
As a result of the collision, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, two members of Joshua's team and very close friends, died. The tragedy occurred just ten days after Joshua's knockout victory over Jake Paul in a bout in Miami.
Four charges against the guilty driver
Adeniyi Kayode, 46, is charged with four offences, including causing death by dangerous driving. He appeared in court wearing a black hooded jacket, but the case has not yet gone to trial.
At the request of the prosecution, the case was postponed until February 25, to allow the collection of new evidence related to the exact circumstances of the accident, informs the BBC.
The tragedy occurred only a few days after Anthony Joshua had defeated the influencer Jake Paul in a match played in Miami, with a record prize pool. The boxer and his team were in Nigeria to spend New Year's Eve and celebrate his success in the ring.
