“I don’t see a dead end yet.” Zelensky spoke about the negotiations between the Ukrainian and US delegations in Miami

Zelensky agreed with the journalist’s thesis that the last meeting of delegations in Florida actually took place in radio silence on the American side. “It’s true – there were few comments,” the president said.

“I told our guys that we needed to communicate more, because the whole country is waiting, the whole world is waiting, that there is a chance to end the war,” he added.

When asked whether this means that the negotiations have reached a “dead end,” Zelensky replied: “I don’t see a dead end yet. We are working on documents. This is a rather trivial phrase: the last mile is the most difficult.”

Also, as the president indicated, conversations between delegations are “constant.”

“I have already spoken several times with [секретарем СНБО Рустемом] Umerov, and he is in touch with [спецпредставителем президента США Дональда Трампа Стивом] Vitkoff and [зятем Трампа Джаредом] Kushner… Therefore, there is a lot of energy in communication, but we need results,” Zelensky said.

Context

The Ukrainian and US delegations have already held a number of rounds of negotiations on a “peace plan” for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war. In parallel, the American side is discussing the same issue with the Russian Federation.

On January 18, Umerov said that the Ukrainian and American delegations will continue consultations regarding the future security architecture and long-term economic development of Ukraine in Davos, Switzerland.
