“For a club like ours it was a disaster”

Transylvania faced big financial problems recently and had to sell several footballers to get back afloat.

They received €5.8 million from DC United for Louis Munteanu, €500,000 from Legia Warsaw for Otto Hindrich and €1.5 million for Lindon Emerllahu from Polissya Zhytomyr.

CFR Cluj avoided the UEFA ban for participating in the European Cups: “It was difficult”

CFR had until January 15 to pay all its debts and avoid the penalty from UEFA.

The club avoided the disaster, claims President Mureșan, after paying almost two million euros.

“I don't want to weaken the team. I don't know if it's too much. We're breaking some principles, we have to. We have to sell to ensure our budget. We will bring in other players, we try to choose them as best as possible, not to make mistakes, to fit within a decent salary cap.

We managed to lower the salary cap by 100,000 euros per month, which is good. The average salary is around 10-12 thousand per month. I made a saving of 1,200,000 per year. All payments are up to date now. We had to, because we had that monitoring from UEFA, every 3 months.

If we do not pass one of these monitorings, we risk not being allowed to participate in the European cups for an edition or two, which would not be good at all. The last monitoring was on January 15th and we passed it, we paid all our debts.

If we didn't pass it, there was a fine of over 200,000 euros, plus an edition or two of European cups, for which we would have obtained the sporting right, in which we would not have been able to play. For a club like us, which has played all the time in European cups in recent years, it would be a disaster.

All the money for Louis Munteanu has “evaporated”: “To pass this monitoring”

I have already collected all the money on Louis Munteanu. We spent them to pass this monitoring. Approximately two million euros. Things have stabilized, from a sporting point of view we have results, that's the most important thing.

We also managed to stabilize ourselves economically, we are up to date, we have no more debts, neither to players, nor to clubs, nor to employees. It's a big thing, but it was hard, with emotions, but I did it. And this time not on the last day, but on the penultimate one”, declared Iuliu Mureșan, according to fanatik.ro.

CFR Cluj has already been monitored by UEFA for several years, so the club's debts may result in its temporary exclusion from European competitions. And in the past, the team patronized by Ioan Varga avoided this situation to the limit.
