Firefighters intervened on Sunday morning in a block of flats in Buzău where an explosion occurred, one person was injured and dozens of apartments were affected by the blast.
A number of 35 apartments out of a total of 79 were affected following the explosion in the block located in the industrial area of Buzau. The second floor of the building was completely damaged, and damages, including broken windows, were also recorded in the apartments on the 1st, 3rd and 4th floors, according to the initial data provided by ISU Buzău representatives, reports News.ro.
According to ISU Buzău, the explosion was caused by an accumulation of gases and was not followed by fire.
As a result of the event, one person was injured, and he was given first aid on the spot by the SMURD crew.
Later, the representatives of the Buzău County Emergency Hospital reported that a 64-year-old man was transported to the UPU, who suffered first- to second-degree burns on approximately 10% of his body surface. At the time of the medical evaluation, he was conscious, cooperative and time-spatially oriented, being under investigation.
The block was supplied with natural gas, and the houses were equipped with convectors. Following the explosion, the gas and electricity supply was stopped in the entire building, and the representatives of the gas distributor were requested to check and fix the malfunctions.
What Distrigaz representatives say
Distrigaz Sud Rețele came with clarifications after the explosion occurred on Sunday morning at a block on Aleea Industriilor in Buzău and announces that it has stopped the gas supply for 83 homes until the problems with the gas installation are fixed.
- According to Distrigaz, the incident was reported at 10:35 a.m., at an apartment located on the second floor of the GEROM building. The intervention teams arrived urgently on the spot and took immediate safety measures, isolating the area and stopping the gas supply to the building at 11:03, by sealing the branch valve.
- Following the checks, the Distrigaz specialists established that the explosion was caused by an accumulation of natural gas, caused by a defect in the individual use installation of the affected apartment.
- The representatives of Distrigaz specified that no gas losses were identified on the distribution network, nor in the neighboring apartments, in the basement or in the vicinity of the building.
- The gas supply will remain suspended until the faults are rectified by an ANRE authorized company and until the supporting documents are sent to the distribution operator.
- According to the legislation in force, the common use installation is the responsibility of the owners, not the distribution company.
Tenants, evicted. Where they will be housed
The mayor of Buzău, Constantin Toma, and the sub-prefect of the county, Viorel Dobre, who together with the intervention forces are coordinating the support measures for the evacuated people, went to the scene. The tenants were allowed to enter, one by one, the apartments to retrieve their documents, clothes and pets.
Evacuees will be temporarily housed in a room of the County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, after which they will be directed to different spaces identified by the authorities.
The municipality will provide 10 accommodation rooms at the Gloria Stadium. Also, six apartments were prepared in a building belonging to the former headquarters of the Water Company, for the rest of the affected people, and solutions will be identified in the next period.
The authorities continue to assess the damage and the investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
