Philip Morris International: A global leader in building a smoke-free future

Philip Morris International (PMI) is a leading international consumer goods company that has set out to build a smoke-free future and to expand its long-term product portfolio beyond the tobacco or nicotine products sector. The company's current product portfolio consists primarily of cigarettes and smokeless products, including products that heat tobacco without burning it and nicotine sachets. Smoke-free products developed by PMI are available for sale in 100 markets, and as of June 30, 2025, PMI estimates that approximately 41 million adults worldwide use smoke-free products developed by the company; many of them have given up cigarettes or significantly reduced their consumption. Smokeless products accounted for approximately 41% of PMI's total net revenues in the first nine months of 2025.

Since 2008, PMI has invested more than $14 billion to develop, scientifically substantiate and commercialize innovative smokeless products for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke, with the goal of ending the sale of cigarettes altogether. For this, world-class scientific evaluation capabilities have been built, particularly in preclinical areas such as systems toxicology, in clinical and behavioral research, as well as in post-marketing studies.

Following a robust review based on scientific evidence, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared Swedish Match's General snus product and ZYN nicotine sachets and versions of the PMI-developed IQOS device and related consumables, the first such approvals in their respective categories. Versions of the IQOS device and related consumables, as well as the General snus product, also obtained authorization as modified risk tobacco products from the FDA for the first time.

With a strong foundation and significant expertise in life sciences, PMI has long-term ambitions to expand into wellness and healthcare and aims to improve the quality of life by providing integrated health solutions.
