Zelensky warned that the Russian Federation wants to damage the Ukrainian nuclear power plant. Already did reconnaissance for strikes

According to him, if the Russians really wanted to end the war, they would focus on diplomacy, and not on missile attacks, blackouts and attempts to damage even Ukrainian nuclear power plants.

“We have data on the targets for which Russia carried out reconnaissance, reconnaissance for strikes. Everything clearly indicates that diplomacy is definitely not a priority for Russia. We must admit this,” Zelensky noted. “We must continue to put pressure on the aggressor and the real cause of this war. The reason is Moscow.”

The President added that this week Ukraine will work on new pressure and the formation of a clear position of the world in relation to the Russian Federation.

Context

Ukrainian nuclear power plants provide approximately 60% of the country's electricity generation, the Ministry of Energy reported. The aggressor country of the Russian Federation has already repeatedly hit substations associated with the operation of nuclear power plants in Ukraine, in particular the Pivdennoukrainsk and Khmelnitsky ones.

On January 17, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported that Russia was considering the possibility of attacks on electricity transmission substations that ensure the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, in order to put pressure on Ukraine and impose unacceptable conditions for ending the war. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, the Russian Federation conducted exploration of 10 such objects in nine regions of Ukraine. The purpose of these actions is to disconnect nuclear power plant units from the unified energy system and mass blackout of power to the civilian population.

Ukraine warned its partners about possible Russian attacks on nuclear power plant substations, the Foreign Ministry reported.
