A man was detained for robbery, after he ripped the gold earrings from the ears of a 68-year-old woman, in a block staircase in Sector 5 in Bucharest. The individual pushed the woman down the stairs when she tried to stop him. The attack was caught on surveillance cameras.
The incident took place on Saturday, January 17, around 3:00 p.m. The man followed the woman to the stairs of the building, and when she entered the elevator, he pulled the earrings from her ears.
“The police immediately went to the scene, where they made contact with the injured person, who was a 68-year-old woman. Based on the investigations carried out, it was established that, around 3:00 p.m., after the woman entered the staircase of the building, she was closely followed by a man. Later, upon entering the elevator on the ground floor, he would have pulled off her gold earrings and tried to leave the premises”, reported the Capital Police.
The woman then followed him to the stairwell exit door, at which point, in order to escape, the man pushed her, causing her to fall down the stairs.

The police soon managed to catch the man, and the earrings were recovered from a pawn shop.
“The policemen of Section 19 immediately started specific activities in order to detect the perpetrator, managing to identify and arrest him shortly after. At the same time, following the activities carried out by the policemen, the stolen goods were recovered, namely the gold earrings, which were identified at a commercial pawnbroker's company”, stated the police.
The 55-year-old author was taken to the headquarters of the subunit for questioning. Later, he was detained for 24 hours, to be presented to the magistrates with legal proposals.
“Investigations are being continued by the policemen of the 19th Police Department, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the 5th District Court, in terms of the crime of robbery. The police recommend citizens, especially the elderly, not to try to follow or intervene alone in such situations, as they can put their lives and bodily integrity in danger”, draw the attention of the Capital City Police.
