State lawmakers have approved renaming part of the road President Donald J. Trump Boulevard. Trump said he was “extremely honored” and would remember the gesture for the rest of his life.
District officials have clarified that the name change will not affect official addresses, maps or emergency response systems.
The agency recalled that since his return to the presidency last year, Trump has already “branded” his name on a number of objects and projects, including buildings in Washington, a new class of Navy ships, visa initiatives and government websites.
The move has drawn criticism, with historians calling it an attempt to cement a president's legacy that may be short-lived.
Trump also recently received a Nobel Peace Prize medal from Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, but the Norwegian Nobel Committee stressed that the prize cannot be transferred or withdrawn.
