Epiphany Eve is a time of strict fasting, repentance and spiritual concentration. On this day, Orthodox Christians prepare for the feast of the Epiphany, symbolizing the manifestation of God's power to the world and the purification of the soul. Traditions of the Eve of Epiphany
Strict fasting and oozing
Epiphany Christmas Eve is considered one of the strictest days of the year. Until the completion of the rite of the Great Blessing of Water, believers adhere to strict fasting, abstaining from fasting food. The main dish on this day is sochivo – porridge made from wheat or rice grains with honey, nuts and dried fruits. It symbolizes family unity and spiritual purity.
Great Blessing of Water
In the evening, the rite of the Great Blessing of Water is performed – in churches and on open reservoirs. According to church tradition, at this time all water, regardless of where it is collected, is filled with special grace. They use holy water for drinking, sprinkle it on their homes and households, and keep it all year round as a shrine.
Rite of washing
Before the evening meal, it is customary to wash oneself with blessed water, asking each other for forgiveness and blessings. At this time, families pray for health, peace in the home and the well-being of loved ones.
Cleaning and order in the house
The Eve of Epiphany is considered a time of purification not only of the spiritual, but also of the everyday. According to tradition, they tidy up their home, remove dust, and put things in their places – in order to celebrate the holiday with cleanliness and light in the soul.
Prayer and visiting the temple
On this day, families gather together for an evening service: they light candles, read prayers and thank God for the past year, preparing for the feast of the Epiphany.
Waiting for a miracle
On the evening before Epiphany, it is customary to maintain peace and goodwill, avoid quarrels and rude words. It is believed that on this day a prayer said with a pure heart is especially close to fulfillment.

Sharing goodness and showing mercy is an important tradition of Epiphany Eve. People try to support those who need care: they invite lonely people to the table, help neighbors, give food and warm words.
