Claude Charlier, a 57-year-old Belgian from Saint-Mard, completely changed his lifestyle. The cost of living in Belgium, the climate and the quality of life led him to look for alternative solutions. That's how he ended up in Spain, more precisely on the Costa Blanca. “The climate, the quality of life, the cost of living: in Belgium, all this is no longer possible”he explains.
At first, Claude thought of moving to the south of France because it would be easier for him in terms of the language. A Christmas vacation in Alicante changed his plans, however.
Taking advantage of relatively low real estate prices, the man says he bought a 70 square meter apartment with two bedrooms and two large terraces, located on a golf course, according to Belgian daily Sud Info. “The apartment was fully furnished and equipped, and the price was 86,000 euros without taxes. Today, its value is between 130,000 and 140,000 euros,” she puts.
Comfortable living at a low price
Claude does not rent out his property as it has become his home.
“It became my first home, because Belgium became temporary. In Spain, the cost of living is much lower. With 100 euros we live together for a whole week. With 1,000 euros per month, per person, you live like a king,” he said.
The man says that water and electricity are also expensive in Spain, but food in the city is affordable. “The menu of the day costs 14 euros and includes appetizer, main course and dessert. In the evening, tapas on the terrace. Pure happiness!”says Claude, who also learned Spanish.
