Context
The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which brings together world leaders, will take place January 19–26. Washington and Kyiv plan to sign an agreement there about the post-war restoration of Ukraine, The Telegraph reported on January 10.
US President Donald Trump, after negotiations on December 28 last year, said that if peace was concluded, the Russians will help in recovery. When asked for clarification whether there was any talk about reparations from the Russian Federation and what Trump’s position on this matter is, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky replied that the United States does not like the word “reparations,” but for Kyiv “it is important to get money to rebuild the country.”
Zelensky, in an interview with Axios, published on December 26, 2025, said that the United States offered Ukraine an agreement under which they would provide security guarantees. On January 8, he reported that a bilateral document between Washington and Kyiv on security guarantees for Ukraine is actually ready for finalization with Trump.
