The promises of the French government did not help. Farmers continue their strike

FNSEA intends to return to the topic of farmers' financial liquidity, which is currently under discussion, Greffin added. A representative of another agricultural organization – Young Farmers, Gwenaelle Desrumaux, criticized Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu for not reaching out to the protesters, but only announcing actions for farmers on the X platform. Desrumeaux said this was an expression of the government's disregard for farmers.

After the Prime Minister's announcements, the FNSEA initially welcomed them with some satisfaction, but later many activists, especially from the lower levels of agricultural delegations, decided that they wanted to continue the negotiations. On Tuesday afternoon, Lecornu announced on the X platform the preparation of a draft law that will focus on four priorities, including: issues of water management and the possibility of culling wolves. The project would be ready in March and considered by parliament before the summer.
Opposition to the Mercosur agreement
One of the deputy heads of the FNSEA, Patrick Bemnezit, also called for “continuing the fight” against the free trade agreement between the European Union and the South American bloc Mercosur. On Platform X, the organization assured that it would be present on January 20 in Strasbourg, “alongside European agricultural organizations to demand explanations from MEPs.”
EU countries, with objections from, among others, France and Poland agreed on Friday to conclude an agreement with the Mercosur countries – Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. This makes it possible to sign an agreement that arouses protests from farmers in the EU; it is scheduled to take place next Saturday.
