The Europol union reported, on Wednesday, after the explosion at the Lugoj Traffic Police, that the heads of the county police inspectorates constantly neglected the need to recondition and renovate the premises where the structures operate.
“This is how we arrived in the year of grace 2026 with police officers who are forced to work in totally inappropriate conditions, without natural light, in premises with mold, in buildings with infiltrations where you are exposed to the constant risk of the ceiling falling on your head, in buildings without a sanitary authorization to operate, which are heated by gas thermal plants that do not have an ISCIR check, or heated by wood stoves whose chimneys have not been cleaned for years. Our union has exposed hundreds of such situations and we have publicly presented dozens of such police headquarters where you enter and you are not sure if you go out on your feet or you will be pulled out from under the rubble,” the trade unionists wrote in a press release.
The trade unionists complain that the Timiş County Police Inspectorate has been led for years by the quaestor Aurelian Petecel, who “for months he used the institution's resources for personal purposes, namely the service vehicle and the institution's fuel, to travel dozens of times to his modest holiday home”.
“The heads of the Romanian Police did not appreciate that it affected the image of the institution and the quaestor of Petece was “forgiven” of a disciplinary sanction, however he was obliged to pay for the consumed gasoline. On the other hand, at the IGPR level we have hundreds of police officers who have been disciplinary sanctioned for perceived damage to the image of the Romanian Police”, support the trade unionists.
An explosion followed by a fire occurred, on Wednesday, at an annex in the yard of the Lugoj Traffic Police. Two people were injured and one has a panic attack. All three victims are policemen.
Following the incident, another annex-headquarters of the Road Bureau was damaged, from which two other policemen aged 41 and 42 were affected.
“The 42-year-old is the head of the Road Bureau who received care on the spot, and the 41-year-old is a policeman within the Road Bureau who suffered a panic attack, was transported to the hospital, but did not require medical admission”, the police also mentioned.
Also, 2 vehicles were damaged, one of which is a police special vehicle, and 5 windows from a block of flats in the neighborhood.
