The allowance of PLN 273 per month, paid together with the pension, is the so-called rescue benefit. Even though it has been in force for several years, many eligible retirees still do not realize that they are entitled to this supplement.
The rescue benefit is paid monthly, no later than the 15th day of the month, and lasts until the end of the beneficiary's life. Its granting does not depend on the amount of income or the amount of the pension received. However, one specific condition must be met.
Rescue benefit. Who is entitled to it?
Only retired mountain rescuers and volunteer firefighters are entitled to the rescue benefit. Persons interested in obtaining the allowance must confirm both their participation in rescue operations and appropriate experience. A necessary condition is to document active participation in rescue operations before December 31, 2011.

Required experience varies depending on gender:
- men – at least 25 years old,
- women – at least 20 years old.
Continuity is not required when calculating active duty – it is the total number of years in rescue operations that counts. Commitment must be confirmed by a written declaration signed by at least three people. At least one of the signatories should have previously held a public office or worked in an office supporting a local government administration body. Additionally, his period of work or holding a function must – at least partially – coincide with the time during which the applicant took part in rescue operations.

The rescue benefit is paid by the Pension and Disability Insurance Institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration no later than the 15th day of each month. As infor.pl reminds, the current amount of the rescue allowance of PLN 273 will be valid until the end of February 2026. From March 1, this amount will be increased as part of the annual indexation of pensions.

An application for the benefit should be submitted to the district or municipal commander of the State Fire Service competent for the place of residence of the person applying for the allowance.
