Russians predicted surge in schizophrenia
The reason is simple, and this is a shortage of drugs: in the Siberian region there is a shortage of the drug for mental and anxiety disorders “Sulpiride”. In addition, the mental state of residents of the region is negatively affected by the change in the length of day and night.
Slow logistics make it impossible to arrange supplies. State pharmacies did not manage to purchase a sufficient number of antipsychotics on time, although one of the Russian drugs is manufactured in the Kemerovo region, neighboring Altai.
Patients have to obtain life-saving medicine from outside or look for another way out of the situation. In total, in 2023, 13.7 thousand residents of the region consulted a specialist with mental illness, which is a record for the country.
It’s also fun in Chukotka, Sakhalin, the Jewish Autonomous Okrug and the Kurgan Region: about five to six thousand patients with all sorts of disorders per 100 thousand population have been recorded there over the past few years.
