The case of Panchenko and the role of Jaburiia is a litmus test for the entire legal profession.
The SBU detained lawyer Olga Panchenko, who is suspected of collaborating with Russian special services. According to the investigation, she underwent military and shooting training, was a member of a reconnaissance group and planned to become the “prosecutor of Odesa” in the event of the occupation of the city. The weapon was taken from her, and the court of first instance chose to keep her in custody.
But already at the appeal stage, everything changed: the bail was reduced to UAH 60,000 and the suspect was released. And it was then that the legal community showed its true face. Acting head of the Odesa Oblast Bar Council, Olena Dzhaburia, publicly defended Panchenko, called the case “pressure on the lawyer” and even took her on bail.
❗️Instead of disciplinary proceedings or at least distancing themselves from a colleague suspected of collaborating with the enemy, the bar demonstrates circular bail.
This is not the protection of the profession – it is the actual cover-up of collaborators.
