According to law enforcement officials, the woman’s birth was difficult. The results of the forensic examination show that the death could have been avoided if the obstetrician-gynecologist had performed her duties properly.
“The woman in labor died due to injuries to internal organs and, as a result, massive bleeding caused by rapid labor,” the police said in a statement.
Law enforcement officers suspect a 50-year-old obstetrician-gynecologist of lacking the necessary postpartum care for a woman in labor.
“Such inaction of the doctor led to a sharp deterioration in the patient’s condition, and the resuscitation measures taken could not save her,” the police noted.
Investigators informed the defendant of suspicion of improper performance of professional duties as a medical worker (Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She could face up to two years in prison.
