“Conditions are only going to get worse.” Russia's permanent representative to the UN made a statement about the war in Ukraine

The meeting was initiated by Ukraine after massive strikes by the Russian Federation, including the use of the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile.

Nebenzya admitted that the Russian Federation carried out massive strikes from January 3 to January 9, but noted that they were allegedly carried out at points of temporary deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, “foreign mercenaries” and the infrastructure of Ukraine, which “ensures the operation of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.” He kept silent about the fact that civilians were under fire and that people in different regions were left without light and heat in the winter.

According to the ambassador, the Russian shelling occurred in response to dozens of drones that Kyiv, according to the occupiers, launched at the residence of the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky previously denied these claims, calling them a “fake story.”

Nebenzya traditionally tried to justify the deaths of Ukrainian civilians as a result of Russian attacks, blaming the deaths on “the work of Ukrainian air defense.” He also emphasized that the aggressor country does not recognize the peace plan on Ukraine’s terms.

“Until the “Kiev leader” comes to his senses and agrees to realistic terms of negotiations, until then we will solve problems using military methods. He was warned back in the day. The conditions for negotiations for him will only get worse with every day he loses,” Nebenzya said.

The Russian permanent representative also noted that Ukraine will not be helped by “truce spells,” “a coalition of the willing,” and NATO troops at the borders. Recalling the latter, he repeated previous threats from the Russian Federation regarding possible consequences for the peacekeepers.

Context

On the night of January 9, Ukraine was subjected to a massive attack from the aggressor country, Russia. The greatest consequences are in Kyiv and the Lviv region. Lvov Mayor Andrei Sadovy reported several explosions.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated about blow with the “Hazel”. Ukrainian officials confirmed that it was Oreshnik that was used. According to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the launch was carried out from the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan region. The SBU published photographs of rocket debris and also pointed to Kapustin Yar as the launch site.

Formally, Moscow called the attack a response to an alleged attempt to strike Putin’s residence in Valdai. The alleged attack on Kyiv on December 29 was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to him, the residence was attacked by 91 drones from Ukraine. Speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Georgiy Tikhy said that there is no point in Ukraine attacking objects such as Putin’s residence, because that is where Russian air defense systems are concentrated.

On January 5, US President Donald Trump announced that he did not believe there would be a strike on Putin’s residence.
