Online courses and schools closed in several counties in the country due to the weather

The frost has gripped Romania and is affecting the normal course of things. Several educational units in the country will have a modified program on Monday, January 12, 2026, due to unfavorable weather conditions.

According to an information sent on Sunday by the county school inspectorates, at 18.00, the courses will be held online in six educational units, one in each of Argeș, Arad, Dolj, Gorj, Olt and Timiș counties. Approximately 2,200 students and preschoolers will be affected by this measure.
Also, in three educational units, from the counties of Argeș, Bistrita-Năsăud and Olt, the didactic activity will be temporarily suspended, and classes will be recovered later. About 100 students will learn from home.
The authorities state that the situation is dynamic and may undergo changes, depending on the evolution of the weather conditions in the next few hours.
Winter hits Romania hard
Snow has returned to much of the country, and meteorologists warn that days of particularly cold weather, strong winds and blizzards are ahead. The southern half is under a snow and blizzard code yellow, where 5 to 15 centimeters of snow will fall and temperatures will drop to -15 degrees.
The capital and several regions are subject to frost warnings, and the first traffic problems have already appeared in Constanța county.
