I rub my gloves with this and they are soft again: how to restore elasticity to the skin after frost and salt

In winter, leather gloves are not just an accessory, but a real salvation from the cold. But by mid-January they often become rough, crack at the bend and begin to smell damp. They cannot be washed, dry cleaning is expensive, and it is a pity to buy new ones if the old ones are still in good condition.

You can save gloves in five minutes in the kitchen without special creams and aerosols. One product that is available in almost every home is enough – ordinary cold-pressed vegetable oil. Sunflower, olive or flaxseed will do.

Why does this work?

The oil penetrates dry skin fibers, restores the lipid barrier and restores elasticity. It also displaces moisture that causes musty odors after snow melts.

How to use:

  • Make sure the gloves are completely dry.
  • If they get wet, dry them at room temperature, but under no circumstances on the radiator.
  • Apply two to three drops of oil to a clean cotton cloth or soft sponge.
  • Using light circular motions, rub the oil into the skin, especially in the folds: on the fingers, along the edge of the wrist and on the back.
  • Leave for 10-15 minutes to allow the oil to absorb.
  • Carefully remove excess with a dry cloth.
  • Place gloves on clean hands and wear for five minutes until the leather takes on its natural shape.

Within an hour, the gloves will become soft, warm and without the smell of dampness. And in a day they will be like new: they don’t creak, crack, or rub.

It is important to test the product on the inside seam before first use to ensure that the oil does not leave greasy stains on light skin.

For prevention, repeat the procedure once every two weeks, especially after walking along streets sprinkled with reagents, or if your gloves have been exposed to wet snow.

Now your gloves will easily survive not only January, but the whole winter until the very end. And your hands will be warm, comfortable and cozy even at -20 outside the window.
