Outstanding performance for Romanian table tennis. The young tricolors won five medals at the tournament in Linz

Romanian athletes won a total of five medals at the WTT Youth Contender tournament in Linz, according to information provided by the Romanian Table Tennis Federation.

In the U19 category, one of the semi-finals brought colleagues from the national teams face to face, in a decisive duel for qualification to the final. Bianca Mei-Roșu, together with her partner from Portugal, Tiago Abiodun, managed better the key moments of the sets and won the confrontation 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-7) in front of the couple formed by Robert Istrate and Andreea Băiașu, who ended the competition with bronze medals.

At U15, Romania had representatives in both semifinals

Nadalia Ionaşcu and her German partner Tien Nghia Phong played a high-intensity match with the pair Richard Feber/Adela Brhelova (Czech Republic) and climbed the podium with bronze medals, after losing 1-3 (14-12, 9-11, 4-11, 10-12).

Kariss Şerban and German partner Tim Toetz qualified for the U15 final with a solid performance against the Ondrej Moravek/Laura Marsickova pair, which they defeated 3-1 (9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9).

The bronze medal dominated

A few hours after the bronze obtained in the U19 mixed doubles, Robert Istrate achieved the same ranking in the U17 men's singles. Winner five times in the groups and on the main table, the tricolor had a balanced match with Francesco Trevisan (Italy), with moments when each had the initiative, but with the last exchanges that belonged to the opponent, score 2-3 (11-9, 10-12, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11), according to news.ro.

Matei Niţă won the first medal at the competition in Austria, after winning four times in the U13 men's singles event. The bronze came back to him, after the semi-final lost to Louis Fegerl (Austria), score 0-3 (4-11, 2-11, 4-11).

Bianca Toma also ended the day with the bronze medal, with a path to the semifinals of the U13 women's singles. Ranked first in the group she was part of, the tricolor team won spectacularly in the quarter-finals and lost in the penultimate act to Elina Hu (Switzerland), score 0-3 (3-11, 2-11, 6-11).
