Brief clashes took place between the demonstrators and the police and at least two people were arrested, according to an AFP photojournalist.
Chanting “Out with ICE now!”, the demonstrators challenge the official version of self-defense supported by Donald Trump and his administration. According to the American government, the 37-year-old woman allegedly tried to hit agents of the Immigration Service with her car.
The official version is strongly contested by local authorities, including Democratic Governor Tim Walz.
“The willingness to take to the streets to protest and denounce how wrong this administration is is, at this point, a patriotic duty — but it must be done in complete safety,” he said Wednesday night.
