The single-seater with which Michael Schumacher achieved his first victory in Formula 1 – the Benetton B192 from 1992 – has been auctioned by Broad Arrow Auctions (a US company), at a price of 8.5 million euros.
After starting the 1992 season with the updated version of the B191, Benetton introduced the B192 in the fourth round in Spain. Schumacher, who at the time was team-mate with Martin Brundle, achieved his first victory with this single-seater in Belgium, behind the wheel of the number 5 B192.
Designed by Rory Byrne under the guidance of Ross Brawn, the B192 recorded a total of 11 podiums, one win and two fastest laps in the hands of Schumacher and Brundle. The single-seater was powered by a 3.5-liter Ford V8 engine, which generated between 660 and 680 horsepower.
Martin Brundle: “Michael Schumacher and I did our best to challenge Williams with the Benetton B192”

In an interview in 2022, Brundle recalled the 1992 season and the Benetton B192.
“30 years ago, the 1992 Formula 1 season looked a lot different than it does today,” explained the Briton. “There were only 16 races in the season, but 16 teams competed in them and a total of 39 drivers tried to qualify. The Williams FW14B was the most powerful car – a technical masterpiece that only a lion could tame.
Nigel Mansell won nine of the races and became world champion since mid-August. Imagine that today. Michael Schumacher and I did our best to challenge Williams with the relatively simple but extremely effective Benetton B192.”
