Medvedev compares the “Oreşnik” missile attack on Ukraine to “a haloperidol injection” for “dangerous psychopaths”

The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, said on Friday that the night attack with the “Oreşnik” missile on Ukraine is an example of how to act against “dangerous psychopaths“comparing the hit to taking an injection of haloperidol, a drug used in mental disorders. The statements were made in a post on his Telegram channel.

Medvedev claimed that “international relations have turned into a real chaos since the beginning of the year” and that Russia “he must behave accordingly: there are too many violent people around”.

“Understanding that such patients never calm down with the advice of benevolent psychiatrists, only the nurses with big fists and an impassive face remain. Because dangerous psychopaths need either a straitjacket or a life-saving injection of haloperidol (a neuroleptic used in disorders accompanied by psychomotor agitation – no). How it happened this night in the west of Banderoist Ukraine”wrote the deputy head of the Security Council of Russia, quoted by News.ro.

The second use of the Oresnik rocket

During the night, Russia launched a powerful hypersonic missile at a target in Ukraine, near the border with Poland, a NATO member state. Kiev's European allies on Friday described the attack as an attempt at intimidation, designed to dissuade them from supporting Ukraine.

It was only the second time Moscow had used the Oreshnik missile in the war in Ukraine, on a night of airstrikes that, according to Ukrainian authorities, killed four people in Kiev, knocked out electricity in the capital and damaged the Qatari Embassy.

The Oresnik is an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) designed to project Russian power across Europe and which Moscow says is impossible to intercept. The missile can carry nuclear warheads, although there is no indication that it did so in this attack. A senior Ukrainian official said the missile appeared to have warheads on board “fiction“, inert.

Analysts believe that the strike was aimed at intimidating Ukraine at a sensitive moment in negotiations to end the war. The attack came after a difficult week for Russia, marked by the US capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a close ally of Vladimir Putin.

Moscow says it launched the Oresnik missile in response to what it calls an attempted drone attack on one of Putin's residences last month, a charge denied by Ukraine. The United States, for its part, stated that no such incident took place.

“May Merz be captured!”

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Dmitri Medvedev, once considered a reformist in the West, has constantly tightened his rhetoric, becoming one of the most vocal and radical voices in the Kremlin.

In an interview given to the TASS agency on Sunday, Medvedev, a close associate of Vladimir Putin, stated that the United States would “created a precedent” through their military intervention in Venezuela and sarcastically suggested to the Americans to repeat the maneuver in Europe, capturing, for example, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, whom he qualifies as a “neo-NaziThe statement came a day after Russia suffered an image blow, with the capture by the US of the Marinera ship from the so-called Russian “ghost fleet”.

According to Medvedev, such a scenario “is not without realism” and would represent a “excellent twist on this cap and sword series”. The former Russian president (2008-2012) and prime minister (2018-2020) added that the German leader “it will not be regretted“.

He went further, arguing that the United States might decide not to stop at Friedrich Merz and “eliminate” and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In Germany, the federal government condemned “with the greatest firmness” these statements. The government spokesman, Sebastian Hille, specified that Friedrich Merz is “well protected and safe”.

Since the beginning of his mandate, the German chancellor has positioned himself as one of the main European supporters of Ukraine, alongside leaders such as Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron, becoming, according to observers, the Kremlin's new public enemy number one.
