Leeds United are set to expand their iconic Elland Road stadium to a capacity of 53,000, making it one of the most modern stadiums in the Premier League. This stadium has been the home of the Yorkshire team since its inception in 1919 and currently has a capacity of 37,890.

Following the decision by Leeds City Council's Planning Commission, the expansion of the West and North Stands and specific changes to the South Stand will increase this to 53,000. The project will reportedly cost more than £150m, but the club expect to earn an extra £29m a year once it is built, according to leedsunited.com.

When Elland Road reaches its new capacity, it will become one of the top 10 biggest stadiums in the country. Leeds will be narrowly ahead of teams Manchester City, Newcastle and Everton, who have stadiums with around 52,000 seats.
