Authorities in Caracas have not yet officially announced the number of deaths, but government sources said at least 80 people died. The armed forces published a list of 24 fallen soldiers, and Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino announced that “a large part” of Maduro's bodyguards had been killed. The Cuban government reported the death of its citizens.

Maduro and Flores appeared in court in New York on Monday, where they were charged with, among others, participation in a “narco-terrorist conspiracy”. Their lawyers argued that they were injured during the kidnapping and may require medical care.

CNN reported on Tuesday that U.S. officials told lawmakers that Maduro and his wife hit their heads on a steel door as they tried to escape from the commandos who captured them.
