President Nicușor Dan said the current coalition is “working” and expects it to “be stable, with minor changes” until the 2028 parliamentary elections.
On Tuesday, during the press statements held in Paris, Nicușor Dan also addressed internal political issues and was asked if a governing coalition with a party that organizes an internal referendum on the possibility of leaving the government works, a reference to the PSD.
“As long as the party's decision is to stay in government, this coalition works and I am optimistic that it will continue to work,” the president replied.
Asked if “it's a game of cat and mouse that the PSD is playing”, the head of state said with a laugh: “Who will be the cat?”.
“No, now speaking seriously, it is certain that we have some parties that are legitimately supported by some publics and what the parties do in the interest of these publics is sometimes divergent, and then there are measures that this coalition took that were not to the liking of the PSD public, and then, somehow, they have, as I interpret it, some divergence between action and political statement,” he continued.
What he said about the discussions regarding the leadership of the secret services and the prosecutor's offices
The president suggested that he would hold talks with the parties before proposing names for the head of the secret services.
“As for the heads of services, because the president proposes and the Parliament must vote, precisely from the perspective of this stability, I don't think it will happen that we don't discuss before. On the contrary, we will discuss so that the appointments are validated by the Parliament”, added Nicușor Dan.
Regarding the management of the prosecutor's offices, he said that it seems “natural that there should be a consultation between the president and the prime minister.”
“As for the heads of public prosecutor's offices, here, again, there is a procedure, which will be launched in the coming days, in which prosecutors who want to exercise these leadership positions will submit their CVs, the Minister of Justice will forward and the president in turn will appoint or send back. Given this procedure, I think that here too it is natural that there should be a consultation between the president and the prime minister”, the president also declared.
