SuperLiga: CFR Cluj sold, for 7 million dollars, striker Louis Munteanu to a club in the USA

The CFR Cluj football club announced, on Monday, in a statement published on its official website, the transfer of striker Louis Munteanu to the American group DC United.
“The clubs CFR 1907 Cluj and DC United have reached an agreement for the definitive transfer of striker Louis Munteanu to the team from the United States of America. We thank you, Louis, for the work you have done at CFR Cluj and we wish you much success in your career!”, stated CFR Cluj.
The group from Washington in turn announces the transfer and mentions that the amount paid for Louis Munteanu amounts to 7 million dollars, writes Agerpres.
“DC United has transferred Romanian international Louis Munteanu from CFR Cluj on a permanent transfer. Munteanu will join the squad as a “designated player” pending receipt of a P-1 visa and an International Transfer Certificate (ITC). DC United has signed Louis Munteanu to a three-and-a-half-year contract until the 2028-2029 season, with a transfer option from the club for another season. DC United transferred him to the 23-year-old forward for a club-record fee of $7 million,” DC United notes on its official website.
DC United general manager Erkut Sogut said the Romanian striker has “a natural quality to score”.
“Louis is a dynamic young forward whose finishing ability makes him an excellent addition to our attack. His movement without the ball, tireless work rate, ability to create space and instinctive finishing in the final third add a new dimension to our attack. Winning the Superliga top scorer title in his first season at CFR Cluj is testament to his natural goal-scoring quality. This, coupled with his European experience at such an age tender, differentiating him from the other players, which is why we decided to bring him to the club. We are pleased to welcome him to the team”, said Sogut.
For his part, Louis Munteanu was delighted with the transfer, which he characterized as a new challenge in his career.
“I am incredibly excited to join DC United. Washington is a great city and this move means a lot to me. MLS is a new challenge for me and I am fully committed to giving my best to help this club next season. With the World Cup in North America, American soccer will be in the spotlight and I want to be a part of that moment. Discussions with head coach Rene Weiler and sporting director Erkut Sogut they showed me that something special is being built here. I'm proud to be part of this project,” said Munteanu.
Arriving at CFR Cluj in the summer of 2024, Louis Munteanu made 63 appearances, scored 28 goals and provided 9 decisive assists in the white-cherry shirt. At the end of last season, he won the title of top scorer of the Superliga, with 23 successes.
In his career so far, the striker has played for Farul Constanța, Fiorentina and CFR Cluj.
