Tragic fire in Crans-Montana. Two people from Poland among the injured

Two people from Poland are among the 116 identified injured in a fire in the resort of Crans-Montana, Swiss police reported on Monday. 40 people died in the fire. The police emphasized that the previously reported number of injured had been reduced from 119 to 116.

The information about two people from Poland among the injured was confirmed by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maciej Wewiór, in an interview with PAP.

– Their families are with them; We are, of course, in contact with these families and local services, and we maintain that if there is any need or expectation of consular support, our facility is ready to provide all possible consular assistance, he said.

He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not provide information about the health condition of the injured Poles.

Police in the canton of Valais said they had completed the identification of all 116 injured people. More than 80 people remain in hospital.

The statement announced that 68 Swiss citizens, 21 from France, 10 Italians, two people from Poland, four from Serbia and one each from Belgium, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Congo and Luxembourg were injured. In addition, four people have dual citizenship: France and Finland, Switzerland and Belgium, France and Italy, Italy and the Philippines.

The fire broke out during a party at the Le Constellation club in the Crans-Montana resort on New Year's Eve. The 40 fatalities include people aged 14 to 39.

The Swiss prosecutor's office brought three charges against the owners of the bar, French citizens: unintentionally causing death, unintentionally causing bodily injury and unintentionally causing a fire.
